At its height, Kiluakisawi was the most important trading center on the East African coast. The site includes several mosques, a 14th-century palace (which was the largest stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa at the time), and a well-preserved Omani fortress. It is also an excellent place for fishing.
Location: Located on the southern coast, it can be reached by daily flights from Dar es Salaam.
