Tarangire National Park

2025-04-15

This park is renowned for its elephants. Youll witness these massive creatures moving in herds, and you wont miss their devoted care for their calves. The elephants often travel in groups, following the same routes year after year. When they spot your vehicle approaching, they gather around the calves to protect them and guide them onward. Here, youll have the chance to sit quietly and observe from afar.

Tamanjir National Park is home to the Tamanjir River, which meanders through its heartland. This vital waterway not only sustains wildlife but also offers visitors breathtaking views. Every day, herds of animals and flocks of birds gather around the riverbank, making it a prime spot to catch natures show.

The park is also home to many baobab trees, which can live for thousands of years. Animals can be seen during the rainy season, but during the dry season, wildlife tends to be more concentrated.

Location: Two hours from Arusha town, almost right in the middle between Arusha and the Ngorongoro crater.

Activities available: wildlife drives, guided walks (available at some accommodation) and night wildlife drives (available at some accommodation)

When to stay: At least one night, better two nights.

Animals: While cheetahs are relatively rare, youll see almost all the animals youd expect at a safari except rhinos. There are also over 550 species of birds!
