Location: 120 km north of Mombasa.
Features: Centuries ago, explorer Vasco da Gama landed on African soil here, and Zheng He became the earliest known Chinese to swim in East Africa, hence the area is also known as "Little Italy". The sea is home to a diverse variety of fish and over 140 types of coral reefs, while the nearby Sabaki River estuary wetland serves as a habitat for wildlife such as birds, hippos, and crocodiles. Visitors can visit the Da Gama Monument near the coastal road, go out sea fishing by boat, paddle paddleboards into the mangrove-encircled waters, or join midnight revelries at beach bars.

Transportation: There are several flights to and from Malindi Airport every day, and it takes just over an hour to get here from Nairobi. It takes about half an hour by car from Watamu Beach to Malindi Beach.
