Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at 5,896 meters with snow-capped peaks, is revered as the "Roof of Africa" and holds the continents highest peak. This majestic landmark features a breathtaking landscape stretching from lush tropical rainforests and alpine meadows to barren lunar terrain, culminating in the twin summits of Kibo and Mawenji. For most hikers, the ultimate goal is reaching the summit——Ukulu Peak of Kibo. Even those with average physical fitness but strong willpower can conquer the mountain without ropes or professional climbing experience.
The standard ascent and descent along the popular Marange route typically takes five days (four nights). While campers on the Marange route stay in mountain huts, all other routes require camping in tents. Other trails take longer but offer more secluded and scenic views. The Machame route features a gradual climb before reaching the summit section of the Mveka route, whereas the Umbwe route is steeper and offers a more direct path to the peak. Its upper sections are often covered in snow and ice, making them particularly challenging to navigate.
Each climb is led by a guide, a cook and porters who carry food, camping gear and other supplies.
