Ruaha National Park

2025-04-15

Luhaara National Park, Tanzanias second-largest protected area, captivates visitors with the Great Luhaara River that draws diverse mammal and avian species for water. As one of Tanzanias most challenging parks to access, it remains largely untouched by human impact. Renowned for its massive elephant herds and buffalo populations, the parks unique charm lies in its ability to showcase a diverse wildlife within a single area – from large forest antelopes and small wildebeests to majestic eland and oryx. Beyond abundant lion, leopard, and cheetah populations, this sanctuary also serves as a crucial habitat for the increasingly rare African wild dog.

Location: Located in central-southern Tanzania, it can be reached by plane from Arusha or Dar es Salaam. It works well with Selus.

What you can do: Drive to see wildlife, hike and hunt.

Time: Considering the long distance, stay at least 3 nights. The dry season is best for sightseeing.

Animals: You can find all the common animals: elephants, water buffalo, lions, leopard cats and cheetahs. There are also some rare animals: muntjacs, elands and African wild dogs.
