Savannah National Park, one of Tanzanias newest national parks, proudly claims to be among the countrys few destinations where visitors can enjoy both coastal scenery and wildlife. Starting from Dar es Salaam, its easily accessible for a day trip overnight. If youre short on time for longer explorations, this spot makes perfect sense. The southern part of the reserve borders the Wami River, where youll likely spot hippos, crocodiles, and various birds including flamingos, ospreys, hammerhead storks, kingfishers, and bee-eaters. While the wildlife experience may not rival that of more famous parks, animal populations are gradually recovering as poaching is effectively controlled. Giraffes are common sights, and sightings of elephants are becoming increasingly frequent. With a bit more effort, you might spot狷羚 or even lions – though spotting lions remains a challenge. The park also offers excellent birdwatching opportunities.
